ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday emphasised the need for close cooperation between the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to address security challenges and accelerate development in the province.
The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur Afridi at the Prime Minister’s House. Matters relating to law and order, counter-terrorism efforts, development projects and inter-governmental coordination were discussed during the meeting.
The prime minister said that peace and stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were essential for the country’s overall progress and stressed that effective coordination between the Centre and the province was crucial to achieve shared national objectives. He underlined that the federal government would continue to extend full support to KP in areas falling within its constitutional domain.
PM Shehbaz highlighted the need for joint efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens, particularly in sensitive border regions. He said strengthening provincial institutions and improving governance would help deliver relief and development to the people.
The chief minister briefed the prime minister on the prevailing security situation in the province and raised issues related to outstanding federal dues and development needs. He said the KP government was committed to maintaining law and order and working with the Centre for the welfare of the people.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular contact and enhance coordination to address challenges facing the province, including security, economic development and public service delivery.
