The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the health of its incarcerated founder Imran Khan, warning that delays in medical treatment could result in permanent damage to his eyesight.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the party said it had learned through credible reports that the former prime minister had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, a condition that can cause lasting vision loss if not treated promptly.
PTI claimed that specialist doctors who examined Imran in jail had advised treatment at a fully equipped medical facility, stating that the required procedures could not be carried out inside the prison. However, the party alleged that the jail administration was insisting on treatment within Adiala jail, despite court orders allowing access to his personal physician.
The party demanded that Imran be allowed unrestricted meetings with his family and close associates and that he be shifted immediately to a hospital of his choice, including Shaukat Khanum Hospital, for proper medical care.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sisters questioned the reports about his eye condition, saying they had not been informed by jail authorities and had been denied meetings with him. They also alleged a lack of transparency regarding his health.
Separately, PTI lawmakers approached the Islamabad High Court seeking permission to meet Imran Khan, reiterating that access to a prisoner and timely medical treatment were fundamental legal rights.
