Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday criticised the government’s decision to join US President Donald Trump’s proposed Board of Peace, warning that the move could compromise Pakistan’s diplomatic independence and weaken the existing international peace framework.
The party expressed serious reservations over reports that permanent membership of the board requires a financial contribution of $1 billion, describing the initiative as a “pay-to-play” model of conflict resolution. PTI argued that peace cannot be reduced to financial influence and cautioned that the forum may undermine the authority of the United Nations, particularly on issues such as Gaza and the broader Palestinian cause.
Calling for transparency, PTI urged the government to disclose the terms of Pakistan’s participation, including any financial obligations and political commitments. The party stressed that Pakistan’s foreign policy should remain anchored in international law, multilateral consensus and the country’s long-standing principled stance on global conflicts.
