In a heartwarming ceremony held today, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) celebrated the extraordinary academic achievements of students from beneficiary families whose lives have been transformed through the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif educational stipend. The event, hosted at BISP Headquarters, served as a powerful reminder of how access to education and sustained support can help overcome adversity.
Among the shining stars was Hafiz Asad Raza, a determined student from a remote village in Fort Abbas Tehsil, District Bahawalnagar. Despite his father’s modest income as a bus conductor and the responsibility of supporting seven siblings, Asad defied the odds and secured 3rd position in the Bahawalpur Board Matriculation Examination.
“Without BISP’s support, it might have been impossible for me to continue my education,” he said, his voice filled with gratitude.
The ceremony also recognized the outstanding achievements of Momina Fatima, who secured 3rd position in the Multan Board, and Mehwish, who achieved 3rd position in Karak—a remote district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where girls often face significant challenges in accessing education. Despite cultural and financial barriers, Mehwish’s accomplishment stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and determination, highlighting the transformative impact of the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif Programme in marginalized regions. All four students paid heartfelt tribute to their parents, teachers, and BISP, sharing how the program’s financial support enabled them to remain focused on their studies and navigate the many challenges they faced.
Chairperson BISP Senator Rubina Khalid, in her address to the gathering, stated that today marks a proud moment for BISP and for Pakistan. These children—especially our brilliant girls—have proven that with the right support, there is no limit to what they can achieve. “I congratulate not only the students but also their parents, whose sacrifices have made this success possible. You have made the entire nation proud.”
She emphasized that BISP embodies the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, and was institutionalized under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari. “The success of these students is a testament to the strength of our policy to empower women as heads of households. These children are living proof of BISP’s success. Shaheed Bibi dreamed of a Pakistan where every child has access to education, lives with dignity, and uses their talent to serve the nation.”
BISP Secretary Mr. Amer Ali Ahmad also congratulated the students and highlighted the extensive reach of the program. He shared that over 10 million families are currently part of the BISP network, and nearly 12 million children are benefiting from educational stipends under the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif initiative, with an allocated budget of Rs. 82 billion. “Today marks a significant milestone in BISP’s journey,” he said. “These children are not only our pride but also the ambassadors of our program and the future of Pakistan.
