Information Minister Meets CPNE Delegation; Reforms in ABC, Newspaper Industry Issues Discussed
CPNE Congratulates Raeesa Adil on Assuming Charge as Principal Information Officer
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar met a delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), led by its President Kazim Khan, to discuss a wide range of issues concerning the newspaper industry.
The meeting focused on the challenges faced by the print media, reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), the budget for news agencies, outstanding dues of media houses, dummy newspapers, and other matters related to the media sector.
During the meeting, the Federal Minister and CPNE office-bearers agreed on the need to introduce reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) to make the system more transparent, effective, and aligned with modern requirements.
Attaullah Tarar said the government believes in a free, responsible, and strong print media and reaffirmed its commitment to continued consultations with all stakeholders to address the issues confronting the newspaper industry.
He said reforms in the ABC system, payment of outstanding dues to media houses, and issues relating to news agencies would be pursued on a priority basis. He also assured full cooperation in resolving the legitimate concerns of newspaper organizations.
The CPNE delegation congratulated Raeesa Adil on assuming charge as the new Principal Information Officer (PIO) and expressed confidence that her leadership would further strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Information and the newspaper industry.
The delegation also appreciated the services of outgoing Principal Information Officer Mubashir Hassan and extended best wishes for his future.
Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil was also present during the meeting.
