WWF-Pakistan, in collaboration with Serena Hotels, marked World Snow Leopard Day with a special exhibition, The Mountains We Share: People, Snow Leopards and Stories of Coexistence, celebrating decades of conservation efforts and the people and partnerships working to protect one of Pakistan’s most elusive and iconic species.Held at Serena Hotel Islamabad, the event brought together representatives from government, diplomatic missions, conservation organisations and other stakeholders to reflect on the progress made in snow leopard conservation and the challenges that remain in securing a future for the species and the mountain communities that share its habitat.Through photographs, stories and an illustrated timeline, the exhibition traced the evolution of snow leopard conservation in Pakistan; from early field observations and pioneering research to satellite tracking, community-led conservation and the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to strengthen wildlife protection. The exhibition also highlighted how conservation approaches have evolved over the decades, with growing recognition that protecting snow leopards requires more than safeguarding the species alone. Addressing human-wildlife conflict, supporting local communities, maintaining connected habitats and strengthening protected-area management are all essential to ensuring the long-term survival of this apex predator. The gathering featured addresses by Attaullah Tarar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan, Dr Adil Najam, President, WWF International; Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General, WWF-Pakistan; Dr Moin Uddin, Corporate Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development at Tourism Promotion Services\/Serena Hotels. The programme also brought together perspectives from mountain communities and wildlife photographers, alongside stories written by children imagining the world through the eyes of the snow leopard. As Pakistan is one of only 12 countries home to the snow leopard, its conservation carries significance well beyond national boundaries. The event underscored the importance of building on decades of scientific research, community stewardship and institutional collaboration to protect this remarkable species and the fragile mountain ecosystems on which both people and wildlife depend. The exhibition served as a reminder that lasting conservation progress is built over generations, through shared knowledge, sustained commitment and collective action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
