Rome, 9 June 2026, Pakistan and Italy marked 125 years of friendship, cooperation, and shared achievements at a high-level conference titled \u201cItaly & Pakistan \u2013 125 Years of History and Collaboration\u201d held at the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome.
Organized by Italian Member of Parliament Stefano Benigni in partnership with EvK2CNR Association, the event brought together senior government officials, diplomats, scientists, academics, business leaders, and development practitioners from both countries to celebrate a century and a quarter of enduring relations and explore new avenues of collaboration.
Messages and remarks were delivered by leading dignitaries, including Italy\u2019s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Pakistan\u2019s Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik, Pakistan\u2019s Ambassador to Italy Ali Javed, Mr Agostino Da Polenza and other distinguished participants.
Speakers highlighted the rich history of Pakistan\u2013Italy relations, from early explorations of the Karakoram and archaeological missions in Swat to major development initiatives such as the Tarbela Dam and decades of scientific cooperation led by EvK2CNR. Special tribute was paid to renowned figures including Ardito Desio, Giuseppe Tucci, and Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam.
Addressing the conference, Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin underscored the growing partnership between the two countries in climate change, environmental conservation, and scientific research. He expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand in the years ahead.
Speaking virtually, Dr. Musadik Malik noted that Pakistan takes great pride in its 125-year relationship with Italy. He praised Italy\u2019s longstanding support through EvK2CNR in scientific research, education, environmental conservation, ecotourism, and sustainable development, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan. He also expressed hope for Italian support in establishing a Green University in Pakistan.
