US President Donald Trump on Wednesday renewed threats to attack Iran, saying \u201ctime is running out\u201d to make a deal on nuclear weapons, after Tehran rejected talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHopefully Iran will quickly \u2018Come to the Table\u2019 and negotiate a fair and equitable deal \u2014 NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS \u2014 one that is good for all parties. Time is running out,\u201d the US leader said in a social media post, noting that \u201ca massive armada is heading to Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs I told Iran once before, MAKE A DEAL! They didn\u2019t, and there was \u2018Operation Midnight Hammer,\u2019 a major destruction of Iran. The next attack will be far worse!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dialling up of threats came after Iran\u2019s top diplomat said the country would not come to the table under the shadow of military action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cConducting diplomacy through military threat cannot be effective or useful,\u201d Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in televised comments on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf they want negotiations to take shape, they must certainly set aside threats, excessive demands and raising illogical issues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has repeatedly left open the option of new military action against Iran after Washington backed and joined Israel\u2019s 12-day war<\/a> in June aimed at degrading Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, he threatened<\/a> to strike Iran over its crackdown on anti-government protests. But the prospect of immediate American action seemed to recede in recent days, with both sides insisting on giving diplomacy a chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a US naval strike group<\/a> led by an aircraft carrier lurking in the region, top Iranian officials also reached out to key Arab states in behind-the-scenes diplomacy to rally support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A strike group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln has now arrived in Middle Eastern waters, US Central Command said, without revealing its precise location.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
