Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday said that he briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the \u201cInternational Cricket Council (ICC) matter\u201d saying, that a \u201cfinal decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a handout by the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (PMO), Naqvi had called on the premier in Islamabad earlier today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring the meeting, he briefed the prime minister on the recent developments between the ICC and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BC) regarding the T20 World Cup,\u201d the handout said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stated that he had a \u201cproductive\u201d meeting with PM Shehbaz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[I] briefed him on the ICC matter, and he directed that we resolve it while keeping all options on the table. It was agreed that the final decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday,\u201d the post read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development comes as questions have been raised about Pakistan\u2019s participation in the tournament following the ICC\u2019s decision to replace Bangladesh with Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bangladesh were replaced<\/u><\/a> by Scotland on Saturday, which is scheduled to begin next month, following their refusal<\/u><\/a> to tour India over safety concerns in the wake of soured political relations between the Asian neighbours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governing ICC rejected <\/a>Bangladesh\u2019s request to move their matches to tournament co-host Sri Lanka, saying it was not feasible to change the schedule so close to the February 7 start of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hours before the ICC had announced its decision, Naqvi had said that Bangladesh was being treated unfairly and should be allowed to participate in the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time, he had said that Pakistan\u2019s participation was still not confirmed. \u201cThe prime minister is not in Pakistan right now. When he returns, I\u2019ll be able to give you our final decision,\u201d Naqvi had said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the International Cricketers\u2019 Association said <\/a>on Sunday that the absence of Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup was a sad moment for the game and should serve as a call for stakeholders to work towards uniting the sport, not dividing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
