Islamabad \u2014Russia has accused Ukraine and its Western allies of deliberately undermining efforts to end the conflict, even as Moscow reaffirmed its commitment to diplomacy and praised Pakistan\u2019s neutral stance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at a routine media briefing in Islamabad, Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev said President Vladimir Putin\u2019s resumption of direct talks with Ukraine earlier this year showed Moscow\u2019s seriousness about peace. He noted that three rounds of negotiations since May 2025 produced results on prisoner exchanges but stalled over Kyiv\u2019s \u201crefusal to discuss technical details of a ceasefire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is not accidental \u2014 it is a deliberate policy by the Kyiv regime and its European sponsors,\u201d the envoy alleged. \u201cThey only call for ceasefires to regroup and rearm with Western assistance, which has already crossed $70 billion since the start of the operation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ambassador Khorev said Russia had already exchanged more than 1,000 prisoners of war with Ukraine and handed over the remains of 6,060 Ukrainian soldiers. He rejected what he described as \u201cfalse claims\u201d about mass abductions of Ukrainian children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The envoy criticized Ukraine\u2019s rejection of multiple temporary truces this year, including an Orthodox Easter pause and a Victory Day suspension of hostilities, claiming Kyiv forces committed \u201c4,900 violations\u201d during the Easter ceasefire alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He dismissed Western calls for a Putin\u2013Zelensky summit, saying President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose mandate expired in May 2024, was \u201cseeking legitimacy through theatrics rather than peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRussia wants a professional discussion on the root causes of the conflict \u2014 NATO expansion, persecution of Russian speakers, suppression of the Orthodox Church \u2014 not another political show,\u201d Khorev added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ambassador also condemned Kyiv\u2019s August 2025 legislation on \u201cnational memory,\u201d which bans Soviet-era symbols and honors nationalist insurgents, calling it unconstitutional and discriminatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turning to the UN, he accused Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres of bias, claiming the Secretariat \u201cselectively applies the UN Charter under Western influence.\u201d He noted that 119 countries, including Pakistan, backed Russia\u2019s resolution against the glorification of Nazism last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khorev described the 2015 Minsk Agreements as a \u201cWestern ploy to buy time for Ukraine\u2019s rearmament\u201d and warned that EU proposals to send troops to Ukraine were \u201cunacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On regional tensions, he denied Polish allegations that Russian drones entered its airspace, calling the incident \u201cmanufactured hype.\u201d He said Moscow was open to direct consultations with Warsaw to prevent escalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his closing remarks, the envoy thanked Islamabad for maintaining neutrality.
\u201cWe appreciate Pakistan\u2019s consistent stance despite pressure. Pakistan\u2019s support for a negotiated solution is fully in line with Russia\u2019s approach,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
