Pakistan on Tuesday welcomed the US\u2019 decision<\/a> to designate the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and Majeed Brigade to its Foreign Terrorist Organisation list, according to a Foreign Office (FO) press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US State Department made the announcement yesterday, stating that the designations demonstrated the US President Donald Trump\u2019s commitment to counter-terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In today\u2019s press release<\/a>, the FO emphasised that Pakistan had proscribed<\/a> the Majeed Brigade \u2014 BLA\u2019s suicide squad \u2014 as a terrorist entity since July 18, 2024. The BLA itself was proscribed in 2006, according to the National Counter-Terrorism Authority\u2019s list of proscribed organisations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBLA\/Majeed Brigade is involved in multiple terrorist attacks in Pakistan, including the heinous Jaffer Express<\/a> terrorist incident and the Khuzdar bus attack that resulted in the loss of precious lives,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 26 hostages lost their lives in the Jaffar Express attack in March, for which the BLA claimed responsibility<\/a>. In the Khuzdar bus attack, 10 people<\/a> \u2014 including two students \u2014 lost their lives during a suicide attack<\/a> on a school bus in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group was also behind the 2024 attack<\/a> near the Karachi airport, which killed three people, including two Chinese nationals, as well as the Gwadar Port Authority Complex attack<\/a>, which claimed the lives of eight soldiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPakistan remains a steadfast bulwark against terrorism. Our sacrifices have secured critical counter-terrorism successes, not only for the country, but for regional stability and global security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that the country remained unwavering in its resolve to protect its citizens and eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. \u201cPakistan remains committed to cooperating with the international community to overcome this common challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the US decision and sincerely thanked US President Donald Trump and his administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a major diplomatic victory for Pakistan and another defeat for our eternal enemy,\u201d Naqvi was quoted as saying in a post on X by his ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis move by the US is an acknowledgement of Pakistan\u2019s immense sacrifices in the war against terrorism,\u201d adding that Pak-US cooperation against terrorism is welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA path has been created for action on a global level against the BLA and Majeed Brigade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also welcomed the US\u2019s decision while speaking to reporters at an event in Hyderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said organisations such as the BLA and Majeed Brigade used violence to target innocent civilians, especially hard-working labourers who went to Balochistan for work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen India and Pakistan fought a war, BLA and Majeed Brigade openly voiced support for Modi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow the US has endorsed this point, which is a huge success for Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that although it helps when other countries declare these groups as terrorist organisations, \u201cwe must try to declare it as such through the UN so that international financing, especially that of Indian intelligence agencies and facilitators, is tackled\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Associated Press of Pakistan<\/em> reported<\/a> that security sources said that Field Marshal Asim Munir\u2019s recent visit to the US had significantly contributed to the global recognition of Pakistan\u2019s stance on regional security and had once again \u201cexposed India\u2019s involvement in state-sponsored terrorism\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the sources, \u201cIndia\u2019s covert support for terrorism has been brought to light through Field Marshal Munir\u2019s successful military diplomacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe US designation of BLA and the Majeed Brigade as terrorist organisations is a direct outcome of the field marshal\u2019s efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sources emphasised that the US move to blacklist the BLA and Majeed Brigade as global terrorist organisations represented international validation of Pakistan\u2019s position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security sources concluded by warning that India\u2019s terrorist designs posed a serious threat not only to regional stability but also to global peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Islamabad had previously requested<\/a> that the Majeed Brigade be listed as an international terrorist organisation. In 2019, the State Department labelled<\/a> the BLA as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT), making it a crime for anyone in the US to assist the militants, but did not designate the Majeed Brigade at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FTO designations<\/a> are made by the Secretary of State, following section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), and \u201care an effective means of curtailing support for terrorist activities and pressuring groups to get out of the terrorism business\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SDGT designations, meanwhile, target individuals and groups under Executive Order 13224<\/a>, even if they are not part of a formally recognised organisation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
