Speakers at a UO seminar stress on restoration of Article 370
The University of Okara\u2019s Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA), in collaboration with Department of Media & Communication Studies (DMCS), organized a seminar where renowned speakers such as Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman Shami, Salman Ghani, Dr Aslam Dogar and UO\u2019s Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Sajjad Mubin, strongly advocated for the restoration of the Article 370 and provision of right to self-determination to the Kashmiris. The Registrar of the university, Jamil Asim, was also present at the eve.
In his address as Chief Guest, the veteran journalist, Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman Shami told that the people of Kashmir had long been waiting to become part of Pakistan as there was a hope of promising future here. Discussing the laurels of Pakistan Army during the recent Indo-Pak conflict, he said, \u201cPak Army is considered to be the top-notched force in the entire world. The incidents of 10th May have altogether transformed the stature of the nation.\u201d Shami emphasized on the solution of Kashmir dispute through dialogue.
The senior analyst and journalist, Salman Ghani, argued, \u201cIndia revoked the special status of the Kashmiris as a last nail in the coffin of the freedom movement but they did not succumb to that atrocity.\u201d He further told, citing the martyrdom of Burhan Wani, that the Indian forces were silencing the dissenting voices on social media. He encouraged the youth to raise voice for the rights of Kashmiris.
Prof Mubin, who presided over the event, strongly condemned the revocation of Article 370 and advocated for the freedom of thought, action and worship. Talking about the aftermath of May 10, the VC told that the victory of Pak Army had created an atmosphere of integrity and collective thinking. He lauded the Pakistani media for playing a balanced role during the recent conflict. \u201cThis is an age of media and economic war and we cannot afford to rest on our laurels\u201d, added the VC.
Dr Aslam Dogar, former Director General Public Relations, said that India\u2019s hyperactive media was inducing fear and Pakistan\u2019s media and historians had failed to build and propagate the indigenous narratives.
Dr Zahid Bilal, Head of the DMCS, condemned the blackout of communication and continuous oppression and suppression by the Indian forces.
