Indonesia\u2019s Defence Minister Lt Gen (retired) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin expressed his country\u2019s desire to boost defence ties and explore possible collaboration in defence production as he met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan and Indonesia maintain strong bilateral relations rooted in shared religion and culture<\/a>, with both countries cooperating in trade<\/a>, education<\/a>, and health<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gen Sjamsoeddin called on PM Shehbaz at the PM Office today, where he reiterated Indonesia\u2019s desire to \u201cfurther strengthen defence ties with Pakistan and to explore possible areas for cooperation, especially in defence production\u201d, according to a statement<\/a> from government-run PID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indonesian minister conveyed the best wishes of President Prabowo Subianto for the prime minister and people of Pakistan, the press release added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz \u201creaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s commitment to explore and expand collaboration with Indonesia in joint ventures of investment in mutually beneficial projects\u201d, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prime minister also reiterated Pakistan\u2019s commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation with Indonesia in all avenues, including economic, strategic and trade sectors, along with defence and defence production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted that Pakistan and Indonesia enjoyed a \u201clongstanding friendship rooted in shared cultural, religious and historical bonds, supporting each other at international forums\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both sides stressed the importance of \u201cenhancing multifaceted bilateral cooperation\u201d, according to the PID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe meeting underscored the deep-rooted historical, brotherly and friendly bilateral relations between Pakistan and Indonesia,\u201d the statement noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recalling his meeting last year with Indonesia\u2019s President Prabowo Subianto on the sidelines of Developing-8 Summit in Cairo<\/a>, PM Shehbaz conveyed his best wishes for the Indonesian president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prime minister also reviewed ongoing initiatives under the Pakistan-Indonesia Defence Cooperation Agreement and agreed to \u201caccelerate the implementation of key areas of mutual interest\u201d, the PID added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June<\/a>, the two countries decided to increase cooperation in areas such as vaccine production in Pakistan, the establishment of medical institutions in Indonesia, pharmaceutical development and human resource exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
