United States President Donald Trump\u2019s Justice Department scrambled on Tuesday to answer questions after its leadership concluded there was no evidence to support a number of long-held conspiracy theories about the death of accused sex trafficker<\/a> Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged clientele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conservative influencers from Laura Loomer<\/a> to Elon Musk<\/a> have criticised Attorney General Pam Bondi and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel for their findings, which came months after Bondi pledged to reveal major revelations about Epstein, including \u201ca lot of names\u201d and \u201ca lot of flight logs\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s sitting on my desk right now to review,\u201d Bondi told Fox News<\/em><\/a> in February when she was asked if the Justice Department would be releasing Epstein\u2019s client list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday at the White House, Bondi walked that comment back, telling reporters that she was referring to the entire Epstein \u201cfile\u201d along with other files pertaining to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. \u201cThat\u2019s what I meant by that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the many of the videos in the Epstein investigative file \u201cturned out to be child porn\u201d. This material, she added, is \u201cnever going to be released. Never going to see the light of day\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Justice Department\u2019s memo<\/a> on Epstein, released on Monday, concluded that after reviewing more than 300 gigabytes of data, there was \u201cno incriminating client list\u201d nor was there any evidence that Epstein may have blackmailed prominent people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The memo also confirmed prior findings by the FBI which concluded that Epstein died by suicide<\/a> in his jail cell while awaiting trial, and not as a result of a criminal act such as murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A subsequent report by the Justice Department\u2019s inspector general later found that the Bureau of Prisons employees who were tasked with guarding Epstein failed to search his cell or check on him in the hours before his suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, a former conservative podcaster, both previously made statements before working at the FBI about a so-called client list and often suggested that the government was hiding information about Epstein from the American public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump defended them in a Truth Social post<\/a> on Monday amid a backlash by his Make America Great Again (MAGA) base, calling them the \u201cgreatest law enforcement professionals\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed annoyance when reporters asked him questions about Epstein on Tuesday at the White House during a cabinet meeting, saying, \u201cAre you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tech tycoon Elon Musk, now Trump\u2019s estranged former close aide, said on X: \u201cHow can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won\u2019t release the Epstein files?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When their feud blew up<\/a> last month, Musk alleged<\/a> that Trump was named in the Epstein files, but he later deleted his posts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musk further claimed Steve Bannon<\/a>, a former adviser to Trump during his first presidency, was \u201cin the Epstein files\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was replying to a post that shared a 2024 report<\/a> stating that Epstein \u201cspent hours being interviewed on camera\u201d by Bannon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey arrested (and killed) Peanut, but have not even tried to file charges against anyone on the Epstein client list,\u201d Musk said in another post<\/a>, referring to an Instagram-famous squirrel seized<\/a> by New York state authorities last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
