At 11:26am, a PSX notice informed that due to a 5pc increase in the KSE-30 index from the previous trading day close of the index, a market halt had been triggered as per PSX regulations and all equity and equity-based markets have been suspended accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market reopened after a gap of an hour at 12:31pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PSX had endured a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1919518\/psx-plunges-3855-points-on-geopolitical-jitters\">sharp sell-off<\/a>&nbsp;on Monday, as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East \u2014 sparked by reported US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and Tehran\u2019s threat to close the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 sent shockwaves through global markets, triggering panic selling and wiping out more than 3,800 points from the benchmark KSE-100 index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Israeli government said it had achieved all its objectives in the war with Iran, and that it had agreed to the US-proposed ceasefire after removing the \u201cdual existential threat\u201d of Tehran\u2019s nuclear programme and ballistic missiles. Israel nonetheless warned it would \u201crespond forcefully\u201d to any Iranian violation of the truce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oil prices fell 5pc after Israel agreed to the proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceasefire agreement, as outlined by Trump on social media in a surprise late-night post, would see the arch enemies stop firing in staggered phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Trump, Iran would unilaterally halt all operations beginning 4am GMT (9am PKT) on Tuesday, with Israel following suit 12 hours later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Trump\u2019s announcement, Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on social media that \u201cas of now, there is no \u2018agreement\u2019 on ceasefire or cessation of military operations\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, he added that if Israel stopped \u201cits illegal aggression\u201d, Tehran would have \u201cno intention to continue our response afterwards\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shares at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) climbed by 5,878 points a few hours after it opened on<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1130,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4,9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1129","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsbeat","category-world"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
