The Pakistani government said on Saturday it has decided to formally recommend US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for his \u201cdecisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership\u201d during the recent India-Pakistan crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move by Pakistan was another indication of improved bilateral ties with the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a post<\/a> shared on X, the government said the international community had \u201cbore witness to unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression, which constituted a grave violation of Pakistan\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives, including women, children, and the elderly\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the Indian aggression, Pakistan \u201claunched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos \u2014 a measured, resolute, and precise military response\u201d, the post read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It noted that the response was executed to exercise the country\u2019s \u201cfundamental right to self-defence\u201d and \u201ccarefully to re-establish deterrence\u201d, defending its \u201cterritorial integrity while consciously avoiding civilian harm\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The post further read that \u201cat a moment of heightened regional turbulence\u201d, Trump \u201cdemonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It continued that the US president \u201cde-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a ceasefire and averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis intervention stands as a testament to his [Trump\u2019s] role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government also acknowledged President Trump\u2019s \u201csincere offers<\/a>\u201d to help resolve the longstanding dispute of Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan \u2014 an issue that lies at the heart of regional instability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDurable peace in South Asia would remain elusive until the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir,\u201d it observed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government noted that President Trump\u2019s leadership during the 2025 Pakistan-India crisis \u201cmanifestly showcases the continuation of his legacy of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, the post read that Pakistan remains hopeful that Trump\u2019s \u201cearnest efforts\u201d will continue to contribute towards regional and global stability, particularly in the context of ongoing crises in the Middle East, including the humanitarian tragedy<\/a> unfolding in Gaza and the deteriorating escalation<\/a> involving Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has repeatedly said that the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours agreed to a ceasefire after talks mediated by the US, and that the hostilities ended after he urged the countries to focus on trade<\/a> instead of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintained<\/a> in a recent conversation with Trump that the ceasefire was achieved through talks between the two countries\u2019 militaries and not US mediation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governments can nominate people for the Nobel Peace Prize. There was no immediate response from Washington. A spokesperson for the Indian government did not respond to a Reuters\u2019<\/em> request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mushahid Hussain, former chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Defence, suggested nominating Trump for the peace prize was justified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump is good for Pakistan,\u201d Reuters<\/em> quoted him as saying. \u201cIf this panders to Trump\u2019s ego, so be it. All the European leaders have been sucking up to him big time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan\u2019s former ambassador to the US, termed the decision \u201cunfortunate\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
