Islamabad — Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan underwent a brief 20-minute medical procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad last week, the Information Minister confirmed on Thursday.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar told Geo News that eye specialists first examined Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where he is currently incarcerated. On the recommendation of these specialists, Khan was taken to PIMS on the night of January 24 for further evaluation and treatment.
Tarar said that after additional examination at PIMS and with Khan’s written consent, doctors performed a minor eye-related procedure that lasted about 20 minutes. He added that Khan’s vital signs remained stable throughout and that he was returned to Adiala Jail with appropriate medical instructions.
The minister stressed that all prisoners, including Khan, are entitled to medical care under jail rules and rejected rumours about serious health concerns, describing the former premier as “absolutely healthy.”
The report comes amid concerns expressed by PTI leaders and family members about Khan’s health and access to medical treatment. Some party members had earlier cited reports suggesting Khan was being treated for an eye condition that could risk his vision if not addressed promptly
